@dulettps WRONG! that is a poor english translation
- Serbian
@jonernm What exactly is wrong? Don't you also say mitt navn er?

Deleted user
@dulettps no we never say that because it's wrong
- English (US) Near fluent
- Norwegian (bokmal)
- Norwegian (nynorsk) Near fluent

Deleted user
@bollesveis no norwegian would ever say that. It is english disguised as norwegian

@jonernm haha, it's not as common to say as jeg heter, but it's not wrong. I've definitely heard people say it at some point

@bollesveis I disagree, it is a mistranslation of english.
Just like:
Mein Name ist ... --> Ich heiße ...
Mon nom est ... ---> Je m'appelle ...
Mi nombre es... --> Me llamo...
- English (US) Near fluent
- Norwegian (bokmal)
- Norwegian (nynorsk) Near fluent
@jonernm I still don't understand how it's incorrect..
You can ask both "hva heter du?" and "hva er navnet ditt?" so why shouldn't you be able to answer both "jeg heter..." and "mitt navn er..."

@bollesveis It's just not good norwegian and should not be taught to foreigners. Not everyhting should be translated directly. In norewgian we have the verb "å hete" which does not exist in english, but corresponds to the phrase "my name is", and is far more elegant in my opinion. same goes for german, spanish and french. most people who use these phrases that are direct translations from english do so because they have an english mindset and have never been corrected on it.

@jonernm yeah ok, that's a valid point, i see what you mean ;)
