Question about English (US)

Is It common in America to use "insulting names" as terms of endearment between siblings? And do they have a "bad history"? Like they were originally real insults when they didn't get along but they later bonded and insulting names remain only as term of endearment? (according to some site, terms of endearment which were originally insult, were insult when the persons didn't get along but later became terms of endearment)
