Question about English (US)
From what I hear, there are more than 100 million mines buried on earth.
Can I change the part of "buried on earth" into "buried in the ground" or "buried under the ground"?
If so, is there any difference in nuance between "in the ground" and "under the ground"?

I don't think you should say "buried on/in the earth". All mines are buried. It is a requirement of being a mine. Just say "There are more than 100 million mines on the planet/on Earth."
There is no real difference between in the ground and under the ground, but there are traditional uses for each preposition. Most of the time, it doesn't matter which you use.

If something is underground, it is both "in the ground" and "under the ground." For this, they mean the same thing. However, something can be "in the ground" without being completely "under the ground": "The tree was planted in the ground" or "he dropped the knife, and it stuck in/into the ground."

@MetRon I think OP may be talking about mines that were dug into the earth and then became buried (covered). If they are just talking about normal mines that aren't buried, I agree with you that "buried" is incorrect. Some people conflate "digging deeply" and "burying," but "to bury" really means "to cover/conceal."

Can I use "on the earth" without changing the meaning in this context?

@nomadatlatl If you mean ". . . there are more than 100 million mines on the earth," then yes. Also, in English, sometimes we use "the Earth," and other times we just use "Earth." There aren't really rules for this.
