Question about Simplified Chinese (China)

When you come across a character you don’t know, is there any possible way you can “sound it out” or guess what it will sound like? I know there are radicals to guess the context but I wanna focus on the reading to speaking aspect. How do native speakers learn a new character they don’t know if they cannot read it?
