Question about English (US)

What does Norm sailed a pie tin across the quadrangle. mean?

I came across the above sentence when I looked up "quadrangle" It looks like an example sentence for the spelling Bee word, but I can't figure out the meaning of the sentence. Norm is a name of a boy and he played with a pie tin like a frisbee ??
Note that, I understand what quadrangle means now. And what it pie tin means, probably.
quadrangle (n L > F > E) a square or rectangular enclosure or court especially when surrounded by building (as in some schools and colleges). Norm sailed a pie tin across the quadrangle.
