Please show me example sentences with explanation of barrow boy. Useful as contacts because they have a good knowledge of London. I want to know the meaing of "useful as contacts". It means people you can communicate with. If you need to know something about London, you can contact (communicate with) them.

Barrow boys were people that sold things from barrows (carts) in the 1800s. Later on (1900s) the term barrow boy was used to describe people of a lower social class. It is a very uncommon expression I’ve never heard anyone say it.

Ex. Go talk to the barrow boy.
I bought an apple from a barrow boy.

“Useful as contacts” is much more common. It means they are useful to know, useful to be acquainted with, useful to talk to.

Examples using as:
He functions as my contact
She works as a teacher
He is useful as a doctor
