"Unfortunately", I already sent my message to the person and looking back, I also find it a tad too groveling and should have done it as you suggested.
The person has already replied however, maybe I can do it better in my reply and try to be less "groveling"..

I know it's nothing much said here..I really liked your suggestion to include a sentence about what is happening in my life for the first message, but I think it doesn't really fit in here anymore since she was not asking either what I am up to and it would sound weird I guess..
