Question about English (US)
hello there. Recently I came across "EVER SO" which means "VERY". But could someone please tell me whether:
1) it's too formal/literary or quite normal/casual/informal?
2) it's off-putting Or not, when a native hears it in daily conversations?
3) what is it used with/to describe usually?

1) It's a bit formal, and uncommon in general.
2) To be honest, I don't really hear it in daily conversations.
3) I think you'd mostly see it in the exact phrase: "ever so slightly." This is a somewhat common phrase, and it's not really formal. "I'm going to move the ball to the right ever so slightly."
For 2), it would sound old-fashioned to hear it in a daily conversation except "ever so slightly" to me.

ever so grateful can be used to express deep gratitude.I wouldn't be concerned about it being too formal. It's a heartfelt expression of sincerity at least when I say it!! I think I mostly use it when I'm in conversation speaking about somebody else for example:I am ever so grateful for her helping me.

I sometimes even say I am so ever grateful......oops!!!!! I've been using it wrong all this time.Hey by the native speaker it's understood either way!!! so ever grateful but I believe ever so is more grammatically correct
