@Brazil10 aaah. "It's a thing" means "it's a common occurance (that no one necessarily planned/encouraged)". This can mean it's a fad sometimes. It's a way of explaining culture, maybe?

"it's a thing" is an informal way of saying "this is a pattern of behavior in this group of people that no one is encouraging, but is happening anyway". The tone often says "I have no idea why and I either think it's funny that the world works this way, or I'm apologizing for something out of my control".
