Question about English (US)

Hawthorne compared British colonies to a paradise and the Puritan settler to other settlers. In the book, "The May-Pole of Merry Mount", he described one of the settlements as a temporary paradise, and the place is broken by Puritans. However, it seems that the main characters who lived in the paradise could start the journey from the Earthly Paradise to the Heavenly Kingdom. does this sound natural?
