What is the difference between a hamburger patty and a hamburger steak ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

Patty = the form

Hamburger = meat in the form of a patty

Hamburger steak = hamburger that is eaten on a plate, not in a sandwich (not so common in the USA, but it's common in Europe)

Basically the same in this context, but we don't really say "hamburger steak". Steak can also be the main dish in a meal, but hamburger patty is one part of the hamburger, we don't serve the patty by itself as a meal.

Same for me, but many countries have dishes where they eat hamburger the way Americans eat steak, that's where you get the name "hamburger steak".

If I say "This is a hamburger steak." Does it mean the hamburger steak is made of ground beef? Does it mean the hamburger is made of other meat?

@hmj Yes, it would mean ground beef specifically :)
For other meats in patty form, you would say, for example, "a Chicken patty," or "Sausage patty" for pork

Basically the same in this context, but we don't really say "hamburger steak". Steak can also be the main dish in a meal, but hamburger patty is one part of the hamburger, we don't serve the patty by itself as a meal.
