You most likely would not say you are going "down" to the pub unless you lived upstairs or the pub was in a place that was below or south of where you are. You'd just say, "I'm going to the pub for a while."

@HebrewDane Thank you friend. Then, what moment can I say: go down or come down to a place?
- English (US)
@carstrk Like I said if the place you wanted to go was below where you were or was south of where you were. Say you lived on a hill and the pub, or store, was down in the town. You could say I'm going down to the store/pub, or whatever. Or if you lived in Texas, for example, and were going to Mexico, you could say, "I'm going down to Mexico for the weekend."

@HebrewDane explain more about this part, please:
if you lived in Texas, for example, and were going to Mexico, you could say, "I'm going down to Mexico for the weekend."
if you lived in Texas, for example, and were going to Mexico, you could say, "I'm going down to Mexico for the weekend."

@carstrk Well, Texas is north of Mexico. Basically. So you could say you were going down to Mexico. Or if I was going to Canada, which is north of Texas by a long ways, you could say you were going up to Canada. If you lived in Mexico and were going to Panama, for example, you could say "I'm going down to Panama" because you would be going south from where you are.

@HebrewDane You mean if I want to go to north I should use: go up and if I go to south: I use I go down?

@HebrewDane Thank you friend. If I want to say: go down the stairs, can I also use: walk down the stairs? go up the stairs the same as walk up the stairs?
go up the steps?
go down the steps? the same as stairs?
go up the steps?
go down the steps? the same as stairs?
- English (US)
@carstrk Yes, the up and down would apply to steps, stairs, escalators, etc. Most people would just say "go up the stairs or go down the stairs" instead of saying walk. But if you did say walk it would be OK. Nobody would mind.
