@james497 So “to be substituted for sth/sb” is not equal to “to be replaced by sth/sb”, right?

@Surrrr If A was substituted for B then B was replaced by A.
If a school teacher is off work they are replaced by a substitute teacher.
In cooking, you can replace butter for oil. You can also say substitute oil for butter.
They are equal as long as you keep the terms the same.
