Remembered is in the past, it's already happened. "I remembered that I have to plug in my charger." "I remembered to do this, thankfully."
Remembering is happening right now. [Being told an event] "Oh! I'm remembering it, slowly."
The '-ing' particle does this for many words, eat / eating, run / running, it's the act of doing it.
