Question about English (US)
What do these words mean in this paragraph?: 'Mellowed out', Outspoken, Straightforward, Crude
Daniel is still known to be quite the opposite personality when compared to Shinri. Even if Daniel’s hotheaded temper and short fused reactions have mellowed out in his former lifetimes, he is still more of a person of direct action and is more outspoken without paying too much mind to the consequences of his words or his actions. He is seen as the more impulsive and straightforward of the emperors, compared to Shinri. Shinri is more of a person of wait-and-see but in fact is the more firm and crude one when it comes down to having to take very drastic action.

Mellow means relaxed, pleasant or not severe. Here, 'Mellowed out' means calmed. So, his quick anger has calmed down.
Outspoken means direct and open in speech, or the way you express. Not scared to state your opinion, maybe bold.
Straightforward is similar, as in the word itself, it means you just go through with it; it's more about being honest, and not vague: Plain and open.
Crude means primitive, simple, raw, unprepared, vulgar, honestly a lot of things. Being crude, in speech, means saying things without shame, that also could be rude. It's "Behavior that is out of place."
So, Shinri can act rude and blunt, and maybe do strange measures, when he has to.

@SSGGEE I forgot to add another sentence that comes before the start of the paragraph:
"People who know him would note he was much warmer and positive as a person in his first lifetime."
What would 'warm' mean there? Is it like 'friendly'?

@aradu Yes, warm is basically friendly :]
But it has a slight difference that may matter to know. Friendly can still be a cold attribute, for example: People you just meet can greet you and do small-talk, and that's friendly, but that doesn't mean that they're nice people, you know? For a lot, friendly is just doing the bare minimum, so it doesn't really mean much when people say it. If someone is asked an opinion on someone but it's not exactly good, they'll say "Oh,, well, she was friendly."
But warm can mean more than that. Seeing someone as 'warm' is a great compliment, it means they have a comforting aura, and are warm like the hugs they might give. It's pretty simple.
In that sentence, it's like he was a much more comforting, and positive person.

@SSGGEE so that sentence pretty much means he (Daniel) isn't as nice? Would cold or aloof fit well if you were to say the same sentence in another way? (as in "His friends noticed he became colder/more aloof as time passed.) could there be a better word for being 'less warm'?
- English (US)
@aradu Yes, those would work perfectly. Also, distant is a great word, along with frigid, reserved. or standoffish.
