@KevinF Like if a friend were to say to you "Hey, Kevin", how would you answer? "What?" "What's it?" "Yes?" etc. and what would be the differences?

@HanyuuFurude I’ve never heard “what’s it” in this context.
It depends on your tone but I think it’s common for parents to teach their kids to not respond with “what?” because it could easily be seen as rude, or at least sound bad.
