That’s how we say it most of the time – the definite article indicates that we are talking about going to a movie theatre.
If you don’t use an article, it’s less clear. In this case it doesn’t matter very much because there aren’t a great variety of places where you can see movies – but technically you are leaving it much more open. Maybe you went to another person’s house to see the movie? We don’t know.
