@sthfmhr you’re welcome!!
And not really because “increase something” means you are making the value of something go up! And it mostly refers to the same object and that this object was already in the item.
I increased the value of chocolate chips to the recipe because I like a lot of chocolate in my cookies!
I increased the money in my bank account because I worked a lot this week!
While “adding something” means that it was never in the object.
I added the color red to the painting because it looked a little boring with just blue.
Or
I added some strawberries to my salad because I like fruits in my salad!

“I added milk” is when you are putting milk into ingredients. For example in a cake you add milk to the ingredients.
I “added to milk” is implying that the milk was there first and you are adding ingredients to the milk. Like a milk shake, you are adding bananas to the milk.

@sthfmhr well “this added my happiness” isn’t really used and sounds unnatural. Now “this added to my happiness” is commonly used! It imply that you are already happy and the event that happened made you more happy!
I am happy to eat with my friends and we all got free ice cream! Which it added to my happiness!
