"最近" means 'lately' or 'recently' in English,
For example: I'm busy recently 我最近很忙, it means that you're busy the whole week or these 2-3 days
But if you are looking for some words precisely just for the recent days (like 2 - 3 days) You can use 這幾天, to emphasize the exact days.
For example: 我這幾天很忙 I'm busy these days.
我這三天很忙 I'm busy these three days.
In general, 這幾天 means a shorter period, but 最近 and 這幾天 are both common expressions.

@LanceL I see! Then "最近" in Chinese means the same as Japanese "最近".
I got it well.
Also, thank you so much for teaching me about the "這幾天" thing!!
謝謝!!
