could znaczy praktycznie to samo co can ale używasz tego słowa w czasie przeszłym np. I could write a letter czyli mogłem mogłam napisać list albo potrafiłem list. could zastępuje także can w pytaniach jeżeli chcesz się zwrócić uprzejmie do kogoś np. Could you pick me up? co oznacza czy mógłbyś mnie podwiezc. czyli zbierając to wszystko do kupy can oznacza móc umieć potrafić a could jest jego odpowiednikiem w czasie przeszłym oraz pytaniach gdzie chcesz się zwrócić uprzejmie
