They both the same thing. There are many words which exist in Japanese which have gradually been replaced by their English equivalents. Other examples include, 「買い物」, which is often replaced by 「ショッピング」, "Shopping".
E.g. These sentences are identical:
寝椅子に座ってテレビを見ました。
ソファに座ってテレビを見ました。
If you really wanted to nit-pick you could possible say that the word, 「ソファ」refers more exactly to a sofa/couch, whereas the word 「寝椅子」 can refer to a wider variety of seating, such as couches, sofas, armchairs etc.
