scene 2

A secret chamber in Canterville chase. An old music plays, kind of a medieval thing, soft and melancholic. Sir Simion lays somewhere, trying to rest, with his eyes fixed in a point. Lady Eleanor enters abruptly.

LADY ELEANOR: I knew it!

Sir Simon stand up with a jump and screams frightened. Music stops.

SIR SIMON: Hey! I'm trying to rest.

LADY ELEANOR: Really?! We are trying for centuries, and we cannot even take a little nap.

SIR SIMON: Yes... All this horrible modern life in the world!... But why did you scream?

LADY ELEANOR: There is a new family here!

SIR SIMON: What? New victims to us?!

LADY ELEANOR: Yes, new persons to sleep in my bedroom! I hate to be a ghost... (she starts crying)

SIR SIMON: And what kind of person are they?

LADY ELEANOR: I don't know! They've just arrived. But they are strange.

SIR SIMON: Strange?

LADY ELEANOR: They talk in a different way. They look bizarre.

SIR SIMON: Are they wizards?! Or worst... (taking his sword from his scabbard) French!

LADY ELEANOR: Simon, we don’t fight with the French in this century anymore...

SIR SIMON: I always forget it... And how long they will stay here?

LADY LEANOR: I don't know! What can we do now?

SIR SIMON: What we always do: "welcome" them. (he starts laughing)

LADY ELEANOR: Good idea!

They leave
