Question about English (US)

I went to America through the cultural exchange program last year. People around me said that I should study at a high school in the United State for two years and try receive a high school diploma. I completed Junior year in Viet Nam, but because of the my international exchange program, I had to repeat junior year so that I can come back the United States next year to complete senior year and receive a high school diploma. Instead of prolonging high school by doing a senior year, I have decided to take the GED in July, because I think I have the necessary skillset. does this sound natural?
