purify means make pure, without contamination. example: this water is contaminated( not pure) you shouldn't drink it unless you purify it by boiling it, then it will be safe to drink it. Purge has a more religious meaning. it has to do with sins you committed a sin you are not clean(or not pure) you have to purge for your sins(suffer punishment) so as to become clean again.
