It's just a saying we have. It's the lion probably because it's feared, strong and capable. It has qualities like a king

@bi1004 ๐๐๐ who knows but as there's a "king of the jungle" let's go with lion.

@bi1004 my theory is because a male lion acts and behave like one.
think about it. in a pride of lions, usually there is only one male. even if there's more, usually they are the alpha's offspring. male lion kills unrelated cubs for fearing they will become a threat soon.
a pride of lions commonly consist of one lion and a bunch of lionesses. think of it like a king with many concubines. and the lionesses do all the hunting, not the lion. the lion just sleeps all day, eat the meats hunted by his "concubines", fuck, and occasionally fights whenever there's another male trying to dethrone him. so yeah, a strong lion truly lives like a king.
tiger is a solitary animal. they live and hunt alone. in fact, lion is the only social animal among the feline species.

@bi1004 I don't know. after all, it's just a sayings.
well, perhaps the application of the term jungle itself has been twisted overtime. nowadays it seems that "jungle" has become the term for any wildlife with overgrown plants. rarely I heard the term savanna used by people.

@Strix Because they are kings of the "jungle" if you go back far enough in etymology.
The origin of "jungle" is from Hindi/Urdu "jangal," which refers more generally to an uncultivated wooded area. This in turn comes from the Sanskrit "jangala," which is just an often dry uncultivated area that would cover savannas or deserts where lions are relatively common. ๐ #lolIanswered

@bi1004 appreciate the info, but that only answered the "jungle" part of the question. not why lion is crowned the king.
is it because of his laziness and "I don't give a fuck" attitude? (like a fat couch potato king)
is it because he always receives the largest share of hunting although he literally do nothing most of the time? (like a king who forces his people to pay taxes)
is it because he has many concubines? (a common thing ancient kings usually have)
I think lions perfectly fits the depictions of kings in the ancient civilizations, hence why people in the ancient time bestowed "kingship" upon them. :)
