Defect is nearly always used when talking about manufactured goods, and is more business-like than flaw. You might say that a television set that you bought was "defective". Only physical things can have defects, whereas ideas can have flaws. For example, you might have a flaw in your plan. In nearly any case where you can day defect you can also say flaw, but not the other way around.

Hmmm… I consider them to be the same (check the spelling of defect). There might be a tiny difference in the dictionary, but if there is, I don't know what it is.
In usage, you might want to know that "flawless" (to be without flaw) is very common, while there is no "defectless." You would say "free of defects" or "defect-free."

I agree with derosier, they're very similar. If anything, I think "defect" is a bit more concrete: Something, for example a microwave or whatever, is not working as it should. "Flaw" is a bit more abstract, for example "a flaw in your plan" sounds more natural than "a defect in your plan".
