Question about English (US)

What do you think of Canadian accents? I feel that most of them are much closer to the General American you usually hear on the TV, than certain regional accents in the US (traditional Boston, New York, Alabama accents etc). Except for pronunciation of some vowels... like the ones in the words like 'about' and 'light' and some vocabulary resembling of British English. While I do like the sound of Southern American English, probaby it's not the best model for mimicing an American pronunciation. But when I hear Canadians speak, it sounds to me quite close to Seattleites' speech. If I want to develop an American accent resembling something between General American/Seattle/Western American. Do you think it's okay to use Canadian speakers as a model (in case I find some text narrated by a Canadian)?
