Hey there!
The particle has a lot of uses but yes.
私のお兄ちゃん- My older brother.
You can drop pronouns though and make it:
お兄ちゃんです- He is (my) older brother.
This is common in Japanese.
これは私のボールです。- This is my ball.
The particle is not just used for people either but objects too.
ボールの色です。(It's the color of the ball).

There are other uses but get use to those ones, ignore the double part ones. Those can be harder.

@INoyaI どういたしまして.
What inspired you to learn Japanese?
- English (US)
I'm not sure really, I used to be into anime years ago and then I wanted to learn, but I've never really been self sufficient. So I suppose I want to learn to fulfil that years old dream of mine to be fluent. Slowly, but surely I'll get there. Thanks for asking!
Not to be asking of too much, But I know sentences go subject object verb in Japanese
If I wanted to say I'm going to the movies would it be
私は映画館に行きます?
(私はえいがかんにいきます)

Yeah, Chinese would be even more memory. A friend of mine who has been learning Korean for a few years is already proficient in it. She says it's easy.

@INoyaI an account that was on YouTube but it's gone now 😦 I'm not fluent in Japanese buy enough to talk to a native speaker. I do have a friend who is Japanese.
I started to drift away from Rosetta Stone which helped but as I got better it was too easy and too repetitive.
- English (US)
Ah shucks that sucks. Ah, I heard everywhere that Rosetta Stone wasn't something to start out with.

@INoyaI It helped me a bit with words and pronunciation but it doesn't explain grammar which annoyed me.

Ah, I see, I see. Do you recommend any new YouTube channels whether they be informational or just a Japanese YouTuber?
- English (US)
The YouTube accounts I use sometimes are helpful and taught by someone who speaks Japanese but teach the lesson in Japanese.
One basic one is called PuniPuni which I think is helpful for people who started studying Japanese.
- English (US)
What Accounts are those?
Okay, Puni Puni And Maggie? I've tried Maggie but didn't know where to start
