It depends really. It's always a good idea as it makes you a more desirable candidate for a job and some companies won't even consider you without one. However, many companies allow growth without a degree. Start low and work your way up type thing (some will pay for your education if needed for a promotion). Trades are also undervalued and often don't require a degree. My husband is a plumber and I have a bachelor's degree. My husband makes more than I do but he has been in his field for over 10 years, so that's partially why.
