Question about English (US)

I heard the expression "don't put them on blast" from English show today and I looked it up in a dictionary and I figured it out what they mean. It means to tell someone's information without their consent.
Is it slang? Can I use this with foreign friends who are not very close to me?
If it is not proper to use, could you give me alternative?
Thank you in advance
