Ada usually indicates possession. It’s like has/have.
It can also mean exists.
Question: Ada pen tak? (Literally: have pen, no? Or: do you have a pen)
Answer: Ada. (Have.)
Terdapat - there is/ there are.
Terdapat enam buah kereta di situ.
There are 6 cars there.
Ada 6 kereta disitu
6 cars exist there
You can use ada in the second sentence. But you cant use terdapat in the first sentence.
