Question about Spanish (Spain)

why is the 'ellos' form of the imperfect subjunctive used sometimes when the intention is to say 'you' plural?

for example i was watching Jane the Virgin when it said

'recordarán que Michael tenía una cita en el Marbella' was the translation for 'YOU (the audience) recall that Michael had a meeting in the Marbella'

is this common?
