It could mean all kinds of things, it depends on context.
- In restaurants, “a side” is a side dish, something you have alongside your main food.
- In a competition, game or an argument, the people or teams who are facing each other are called the two “sides” to the competition/argument/game.
- You could mean the word “aside” as opposed to “a side”. To “get aside” is to move yourself out of the way of something, usually something that is passing by or is dangerous.
