What is the difference between あまり and すぎる ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

They both mean not much in a negative state, what's the difference in the usages ?

We use "あまり" in a negative state, it works as an adverb.
"あまり" is coupled with "~ない", for example, "あまりうれしくない(I'm not so happy)", "あまり大きくない(It's not so big)", "あまり聞かない(It isn't commonly used)","あまり知らない(I don't know much about it)".
We use "すぎる" in a negative state, it works as a verb.
"すぎる" is coupled with an adjective, for example, "うれしすぎる", "大きすぎる", "知りすぎる".
