Question about English (UK)

Hi, I am from Russia and I am preparing for TOEFl! Can you read this essay and correct mistakes or suggest how some sentences should be written. If you are familliar with TOEFL evaluating system, can you please also evaluate this essay.

Do you agree or disagree? "There is no reason to study the past since we live in the present."

These days there is a lot of debate about whether we should study the past. Some people are sure that the past is not worth studying as we have the present. However, I think that studying the past is very important as it can help us in our modern life and future.
First, our history if full of tragic events which should not repeat. Knowing past can help us prevent a lot of mistakes in the future. From our history we know results of wars and different conflicts. People understand the danger of nuclear weapons since two nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. People understand that only one murder can emerge an entire war, since The First World War was the result of the murdered the king of Serbia. The terroristic acts of 9/11 led people to understand how dangerous terrorism can be, and sins then no one approves the terrorism. Such experience can help people maintain peace on Earth.
Second, our history is also full of great events and inventions. Unfortunately some inventions are forgotten. These days thousands of scientists are trying to understand how the Pyramids if Giza and statues on Christmas Island were erected. Understanding the building techniques, which were used by our ancestors, can help us create more and more new architectural wonders. In the past we can find out how people prevented some wars. For example during the Cold war the USSR and the USA were close to begin a war, but good policy of John Fitzgerald Kennedy prevented a potential war. Getting to know the past we can realize how should we act to make The World better.
Taking everything into consideration we can come to a conclusion that we must study the past as if we know the past, we can build great future to our civilization.
