Question about English (UK)

AWhen talking about doing(?). I think”play” is basically just used for ball game. “swim . wresle, ski, skate” have their own verbs.How about ”judo, karate, gymnastics, “ what verbs should be used for them?
I do not mean about their every day practice, but when they participate in Olympic Games.
