Question about English (US)

Let's say you are a hotel receptionist, and are apologizing to a guest whose room has not been reserved because of the hotel's fault.
In that case, which word between "handled" and "processed" sounds better in the following sentence? :

"I apologize that your reservation was not handled/processed properly."

I feel like "handled" sounds rude. It sounds like the hotel was reluctant to accept the reservation, or just very lazy. On the ohter hand, "processed" sounds like an error with no intention.
