Question about English (UK)

"Despite its low frequency, Japanese students tend to use the passive voice excessively when they express similar things expressed in the passive voice in Japanese (-reru, rareru)." Does this sound natural?

Could you please correct it and rewrite any unnatural parts if it's (a little) unnatural?
