Indeed, pendants that are worn are referred to differently based on location or type. A pendant worn around the neck is called a necklace. Sometimes if your pendant can open and holds a picture inside, it is called a locket. Pendants around the wrists are called bracelets and around the ankles are called anklets. It is unfortunately a rather complicated set of vocabulary.

It depends on what kind of pendants. Ones that are worn are almost always referred to as necklaces or jewelry. Hanging ornaments makes me, and likely most other native english speakers, think of Christmas tree decorations.

I come across the same issue in my own language studies. Subtle vocabulary is an incredibly difficult barrier to overcome in language. I wish you all the best in your studies!

Pendant is just a fancy word for hanging ornament basically. Hanging ornament is a very literal definition. Pendant is a much more common word.
