Nearly the same meaning!
Both can mean "out of date"
However "dated" can be used to mean other things. Usually we use dated when talking about something popular going out of style.

"Dated" es una forma acortada de decir "outdated" prácticamente es lo mismo. Aunque "outdated" es un poco más formal. Además, como ya te dijeron, "dated" puede referise al pasado de "cita".
