無理やり解釈して、普通の文章に言い換えると、
「危なそうに思えたが、その子を右手で抱きしめながら、体を曲げて左手を伸ばし、それを取ろうとすると、足元の砂がぼろぼろ崩れて崖下へ落ちていった。」でしょうか。「押さえて」何かに押し付ける感じでないかと思います。push him to myself/hold/embraceではないかと解釈しました。
