But it's hard to understand "to impress people they don't like."
Does mean "the man can't move others without to obtain by himself"?

yes, the lottery example is good. it is talking about how materialism makes us unhappy.

"too many people"-means that many people do this and it is not good
"spend money they haven't earned"- people use money that they have, but they do not deserve that money
"to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like"- people buy things they do not like or need. They do this because they want to fit in to society.
