@Masaki0704 It is very uncommon to use "cause" in that way. Cause is almost always used as a verb (to cause), but it is rare to see it used as a noun. It was hard for me to answer your question!!

I think in this sentence, "causes" mean their goals or motives.

@Masaki0704 I think he is talking about more personal goals and not work-related goals. The word "causes" implies personal goals, but I'm really not 100% sure... :)
