They're ("they", cuz I don't do this) trying to show modesty by doing this. Whether it's covering their mouth when they laugh or covering their crotch, it's about modesty.

It's depends on the show's concept. Particularly the talk shows that u said are in family hour.
And that kinda talk shows in s.Korea tend to show comfy atmosphere with that kinda stuff, pillow/blanket, etc.
Many other Korean talk shows don't have that stuff. Like 썰전, 마녀사냥, 라디오스타, 속사정쌀롱, 비정상회담, etc
