Succinct: is when you convey the message with almost the same details but with as little wording as possible.
Concise: when you remove unnecessary details and reduce it to the core components, using little wording.
Terse: when you reduce the wording but express it in a way to make it more effective, or add to the meaning.
Brief: is a general description of making something shorter. Itās purpose is to give an overall view of a situation.
Example:
Original:āI drove all the way to the mall today, Spent hours upon hours searching from one rack to another, and eventually found the thing that I was looking for, a very nice and impressive shirt, bought it and then went to my car and drove back homeā.
Succinct: āHe drove to the mall, searched for a nice shirt, bought it and drove back homeā.
Concise: āHe bought a nice shirt from the mallā.
Terse 1: āHe spent time and effort to finally buy a shirtā
Terse 2: āHe wasted his day to buy a shirt from the mallā (carries a different meaning)
Brief ; āHe drove to the mall, spent time searching for a nice shirt, bought it and took it back homeā.

@Y_question_mark thankssssas which words are commonly used btw? I heard of brief and concise being used...not really terse or succinct. I wonder when they are used :O

@sue90
You are right. The most widely used are the ones you mentioned.
You would rarely, if ever, hear the others used. Youāll find them mostly, but also not commonly, in literature.
