Domande Inglese (Regno Unito)
[Have a look at the pic, pls💜]
I would like to use as a title of a book “Once upon in a dream”. A lot of native speakers told me that it doesn’t make much sense and to find an alternative.
This is my last try guys😂 to keep what’s on my mind.
As there are some movies which have “Once upon in” as title, could I use Once upon in a dream as well?
The title means (or should mean) that the story happened in a dream and I am writing it.
In Italian (my mother tongue) would be “C’era una volta in un sogno” (literally There was once in a dream -> Once upon in a dream).
A lot of you suggested to cut off the IN part -> Once upon a dream, but I’m afraid that in this way the DREAM’ll become the main part of the title, which is not what I want to mean, because I’m not dealing with the dream, but THE STORY that I dreamed about. Resuming the stories I’ll write in this book are INSPIRED BY SEVERAL DREAMS.

Much clearer! How about: Once, in a dream
Once upon in a dream is ungrammatical!

Remember that book, film and song titles often are not grammatical

@kimchaexe Are you writing a book or something? 🤔🧐

All of your examples in your original post are incorrect. "Once upon in Hollywood" should be "Once upon a time in Hollywood".
"Once upon in" does not make sense without the "a time". Your translation of “C’era una volta in un sogno” should be "Once upon a time in a dream".
So why not use "Once upon a time in a dream/my dream/my dreams/dreaming/...?

For me as an Italian the phrase "Once upon a time in a dream" sounds good because it makes me understand that you are talking about something inside a dream and not about a dream as an ideal (like Martin Luther King for example). But probably for English speakers it sounds different...

@kimchaexe @bebez71
Once upon a time, in a dream is also fine, if you want to stress the 'fairy tale' aspect
