Q: あたえる と あげる はどう違いますか?
A: あげるis much more informal
Q: あたえる と あげる はどう違いますか?
A: basically あげる is a polite expression of あたえ, but nowadays あげる is widely used in daily conversation and sometimes sounds more informal, so if you want to say あげる more politely, there is another equivalent さしあげる. I think あたえ is used in more limited situations.
- わたしはこどもにケーキをあげます。
- わたしはあなたに本をさしあげます。
- どうぶつにえさをあたえないでください。

By the way, when you are the object of "to give", you usually can't say あげる/あたえ. You should say くれる/くださる etc. instead. (but yunta-san's translation 与えてください/与えたまえ are also correct)
- Plesse give me it. それをください。
- He gave me a book. かれは本をくれました。

この表現は自然ですか?

ください is used when you ask someone to give something, but informally, it often means to ask someone to pass you something. It would not be in the dictionary, but very informally, it is used like ”はさみ ください” to mean 'pass me the scissors' just to use briefly. In your sentence, ください expresses this meaning, I think, or else, it is not reasonable to say "Give me MY book." If it is YOUR book, it is strange to ask someone to give it to you, isn't it?
Another reason is, あたえる and くださる are both mean 'to give' and it is not necessary to say the both verbs in one sentence, as kabikabi-san says.
One more reason is, あたえる has a strong sense of 'someone higher in position gives something to someone lower' and the word is not often used in everyday life because we don't have a sense of 'upper class' or 'lower class' anymore, after the past world war, and the expression あたえる is becoming old-fashioned to use among friends.
You do use it to say 植物に水をあたえる(to あたえる water to plants) or 敵にチャンスをあたえる which means 'to give a chance to the enemy' for the enemy is kinda looked down on.
Well, it is a difficult problem and I am not sure if my explanations sound clear. Sorry about it. It would be better just to remember correct sentences and when you gained more vocabulary, think about it again. At that time you may be able to explain it yourself.(^_-)☆
Q: When do you use あたえる (与える)
A: ペットに餌(えさ)を与える
人々に不安を与える
違反者に刑罰を与える
与える is nearly to give
