If you want this sentence more politely,Of course you can put です at the end like you said.→昨日は天気が良かったです。or昨日はいい天気でした。
I really understand how you feel!
Leaning languages are so difficult especially the grammer is totally different.

天気がきれい←We actually don't say something like this.We say 天気がいいorいい天気.So you can say 昨日は天気がよかった.or昨日はいい天気だった.

@Miley-y I understand. So the problem was in using the right adjective. In Poland we say 'beautiful weather', so that's probably where the attempt was made to transfer it to Japanese. In fact, this sentence did not seem natural to me, I have never met one like this, I wanted to be sure. One more question, can I use です after よかった、 so that です is at the end of the sentence? Do we leave よかった alone in this case? It seems to me that in everyday speech we would leave the same よかった。 But I learned that it is better to write polite sentences and use more polite phrases, because it is more universal. I would give です after よかっった.
