she was born in Bristol on February 3, 1821, she had 6 siblings, her family had enough economic capacity to pay for the education of all their children, surprisingly in this day and age, his father believed that all children, including his girls, ought to have the opportunity to study and become somebody important. After losing their business in Bristol, the family moved to New York in search of a new life, regrettebly her father passed away when she was 17, and she and an older sister should work as a teacher to help with the family finances. Nevertheless, she is not satisfied with that life where women who had studies had to dedicate to teach, although, never before have women be a doctor, she dreamt to become a doctor.Thus, she applied in several universities and not only had she rejected but she also had to endure sexist prejudice, but at the end ,she was acepte in Geneva Medical College where the male students had to vote for acceptance and they as a joke voted her. of course not only did she got the degree but she passing with flying colour.
