Titanic is a 1997 American romance-disaster movie written, directed, co-produced, and co-edited by Canadian filmmaker James Cameron. It tells the story of the RMS Titanic during her maiden voyage in 1912 and of a couple of different social classes who fall in love aboard. Cameron's inspiration for the movie came from his fascination both with shipwrecks and the ocean. At the time of its release on November 1, it was the most expensive movie ever made, with an estimaded budget of $200 million and it achieved both critical and commercial sucess very quickly. Moreover, it remained the biggest box-office movie of all time until Cameron broke his own record in 2009, with the release of Avatar.
